Walk-In Information

If the course you wish to attend is closed to additional enrollment, you may be admitted to the class without prior application if sufficient space is available. The procedure is to arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to the first class meeting and notify the instructor that you would like to attend as a walk-in. At the course starting time, a lottery will determine which walk-in students will be assigned to any unclaimed seats.

Note: Class size is limited so there is no guarantee of being admitted. Confirmed and Standby students who arrive on time have priority over walk-in students.

You must bring the following items to all class sessions:

  • Valid drivers license or instruction permit
  • Sturdy, over-the-ankle footwear (not cloth or canvas)
  • Long pants (heavy material with straight legs)
  • Long-sleeved shirt or jacket
  • Full-fingered gloves
  • Eye protection (glasses or goggles)

A Department of Transportation (DOT) approved helmet will be provided if you do not have your own.

Experienced course participants must also:

  • Have a valid motorcycle license
  • Provide their own DOT approved helmet
  • Show proof of current registration and insurance for the motorcycle being used during the course
  • Complete a motorcycle safety inspection checklist prior to class, with the checklist provided, for the motorcycle being used during the course

Another idea to consider would be to take the course somewhere outside of the Cook County area. There are rural pockets in the state where we cannot give the courses away. The farther you get from Cook County, the easier it is to get into a course. There are about 50 training sites throughout Illinois - only 12 within Cook County.

Check out the links to the other regional training centers in the state of Illinois for more information on training outside of Cook County.

Additional training is available, for a fee, in the Cook County area at several commercial riding schools.
